ZIFF director, Nakai Matema hailed the coming aboard of some embassies to give sponsorship, but said the support received so far is not enough for the viability of the film industry as evidenced by few film productions.

”We are happy with the coming in of other embassies in supporting the festival, but there is need for the industry to improve since there are financial challenges as we registered few productions last year because of economic challenges,” said Matema.

As part of the opening ceremony at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, the festival will showcase an Indonesian film “The Dreamer”.

The ceremony will be attended by local film stakeholders and international film producers including renowned film makers, Rocky Otoo and M.K. Asante who was born in Zimbabwe and is currently a professor of Creative Writing and Film at Morgan State University in America.

Zimbabwe has shown great talent in film making with some of the films such as “I Want a Wedding Dress” by Olaf Koschke participating in international film festivals.
