All is set for the 19th congress of the Chinese ruling party, the Communist Party of China (CPC) to be officially opened this Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Beijing.
Addressing a media conference, the CPC spokesperson Tuo Zhen spelt out the agenda of the congress which includes economic growth, fighting corruption and amendments to the constitution as well as poverty eradication.
The congress which is held every 5 years and was last held in November 2012 will also elect members to the party’s top organs which include the central committee and the political bureau.
The CPC has a membership of more than 80 million members in a country of 1.4 billion and the congress will be attended by 2 287 delegates.
More than 50 journalists from 26 African countries are also covering the event courtesy of digital television services provider, Startimes, who sponsored the media houses covering the event, marking the first time the congress has been covered by such a large contingent of journalists from Africa.
