Preparations for the season opener marathon to be hosted by the Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) at Luveve Stadium this Saturday are almost complete.
The event, which is the first on the Bulawayo athletics calendar, will see athletes competing in the 2.5km boys and girls cadet race, 8km (junior men and women) and 10km for seniors.
BAB chairperson Emmanuel Mpofu said the event seeks to prepare athletes who will represent Bulawayo for various upcoming local and international competitions.
“As Bulawayo Athletics Board we will be having our first athletics events on the 12th of this month hence athletes should use the event to prepare for various upcoming local and international competitions. We are inviting all clubs and schools from across Bulawayo to come and be part of this first event of the year. With the schools athletics season ahead, we believe this event will also provide a platform for athletes to prepare for the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) and the National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) programmes,” he said.
Various clubs and schools in and outside Bulawayo will participate in the marathon which will be held this Saturday.
