All is set for the official opening of the 2019 legal year tomorrow.

The Chief Justice Luke Malaba is expected to preside over the main proceedings at the Constitutional Court in Harare.

The official opening of this year’s legal year is going to be a unique event as four courts are simultaneously participating in the official proceedings.

The event will see the Chief Justice Malaba briefing the nation on the developments in the justice delivery system.

Acting Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission Mr Walter Chikwana said senior judges have been deployed in the provincial high courts to preside over the proceedings.

The judiciary is faced with a number of tasks that include rehabilitation of some magistrate courts especially Chinhoyi, Lupane, Chiredzi, Guruve and Mt Darwin.

The finalisation of the Supreme Court to be a stand-alone court is part of issues that the head of judiciary will be expected to address before year 2020 as prescribed by the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

Currently the Supreme Court is operating at the Constitutional Court building but the Constitution provides for the separation of the two.
