The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) has re-affirmed its commitment towards continuous sport development.

This came out during the AFZ 2018 edition of the inter-base sporting competition at the Josiah Tungamira Airbase in Gweru.

The event, which is a platform the airmen use to develop grassroots, was graced by teams from all Air Force bases in the country.

AFZ Commander, Air Marshal Elson Moyo expressed joy in the way sport has panned out in the force and its critical role in ensuring a healthy air force.

“I am proud to note that our investment and commitment to sports development continues to bear fruit. This year alone, we have sent some of our athletes as far as Europe and the African region, and we expect 2019 to be better and bigger. We are therefore deeply supportive of this direction which sport has taken in the AFZ,” he said.

Air Marshall Moyo also urged the units to increase women participation in the various sport codes.

“This is however not to say that women in the AFZ have not claimed their share of glory in sport. Accordingly, there are remarkable good performances by the Air Force Queens soccer and netball teams at national level,” he said.

The annual inter-base sporting competitions afford officers and members an opportunity to interact in a friendly sporting environment.
