The Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) is targeting more socio- economic developmental projects in the country next year in line with the government’s vision 2030 of transforming the nation into an upper middle income economy.
While many associate the role of the defence forces with maintaining peace and security for the nation, the uniformed forces also performs several duties that facilitate development.
The AFZ is also undertaking development projects that positively impact the nation, and it was time to review and focus on the upcoming year at the Commander Sundowner Ceremony in the capital yesterday.
AFZ Acting Commander Air Vice Marshal Jacob Nzvede told guests who included Commander Defence Forces General Philip Valerio Sibanda, members of the business community, top uniformed force officials and economic decision makers that the AFZ remains committed to pursuing an active role in the development of the country.
“We shall do our best remember it is also our role to ensure peace and stability but we are also targeting development,” said Air Vice Marshall Nzvede.
In a presentation to the guests, a local businessman Mr Tawanda Nyambirai said the role being played by the defence forces is very critical in creating a favorable business climate and fostering sustainability and stability of macroeconomic fundamentals.
“It is just the role of the uniformed forces which is really critical and we anticipate further to sustain growth,” he said.
The annual AFZ Sundowner is a platform that is considered critical in creating networks, exchange of ideas, resource mobilisation, assessment of critical needs, and facilitation of developmental projects as well as general entertainment.
