Africans have been urged to defend the gains of their independence and strive to achieve economic  independence.

In her address during Mozambique independence celebrations held at Espungabera in Mossurize, District Administrator, Isabel Fernando Jamisse said Mozambicans should continue to safeguard their independence and work hard to liberate themselves from poverty.

Zimbabwean head of delegation of officials who attended the celebrations, Chipinge District Administrator, William Mashava also underscored the importance of Africans valuing their independence saying it is a common denominator that should unite African countries.

Meanwhile, celebrations have been held though out Mozambique following the attainment of the country’s Independence from the Portuguese on June 25, 1975.
