The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Harare East Province this Saturday held an empowerment expo aimed at imparting entrepreneurial skills to its members.
The expo was quick to receive praises from the government, with the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province, Mirriam Chikukwa commending the church for encouraging citizens to embark of self help businesses that can grow the economy and contribute to gross domestic product (GDP).
“This is a good initiative that can be cascaded to other churches. Churches should complement government efforts through SMEs to reduce poverty and create employment,” she said.
Reverend Amon Chinyemba, who is the Overseer of Harare East Province, Hillside AFM, said it is the role of the church to also foster development.
“As a church, it is good to participate in areas of business for the purpose of empowering our congregants,” he said.
Exhibitors at the expo testified to the importance of such initiatives which also provide market opportunities through interaction.
More than 20 local corporate organisations including financial institutions and government departments exhibited their products.
