Farmers in Makonde district have been called upon to promote Conservation agriculture and other agronomic practices that mitigate the effects of climate change.
In the face of climate change which has seen agricultural production suffer, farmers have been called upon to adapt to the new order by embracing practices and technologies that mitigate the effects of the phenomenon.
The call was made by the Deputy Minister of Local Government Public Works and National Housing Honourable, Jennifer Mhlanga while officially opening the Makonde District Agricultural Show in Alaska.
“Conservation agriculture is an integrated technique that promotes productivity while conserving the environment,” the Deputy Minister said.
The Deputy Minister also encouraged farmers to value-add their produce through agro-processing at local level.
The agricultural show was dominated by farm produce exhibitions.
