President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the war of liberation was successful because of a collective effort by all patriots and that determination yesterday can still be found today as we seek to rebuild our country.
The President said this when he met with war veterans at the City Sports Centre in Harare for the first time yesterday.
“The war of liberation in Zimbabwe was not a war of rumble or individualist fighters, many gallant fighters went into the harm’s way knowing that their cause was just hence the justice of their cause was the justice of their gun. It was a collective effort be it from PF Zapu or Zanu PF fighters,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said he is fully cognisant of the collective efforts displayed in the war of liberation where there were no rumbles.
As a trained lawyer, Cde Mnangagwa said countries that are successful adhere to the rule of law, and you disregard the independence of the judiciary at the country’s own peril hence his administration is for the rule of law and clean governance.
“All Zimbabweans should thus adhere to the rule of law,” he said.
The President also said the state capture by the G40 cabal was a deviation from the constitution and the ethos of the liberation struggle.
“These challenges, the indiscipline displayed by the cabal, the excesses exuded by the cabal are all lessons learnt and never again should it be allowed to revisit the nation,” noted the President.
Turning to the harmonised elections, Cde Mnangagwa urged war veterans to massively campaign in all sectors for Zanu PF’s victory in the forthcoming elections.
