SIRDC has come up with various scientific innovations in the agriculture and mining sector which if adopted on a national scale can help transform the economy.

The Chief Executive Officer of SIRDC, Dr Robson Mafoti, says the Bio-technology Research Institute has embarked on a new drought resistant seed variety project which will enhance national food security as well as export enhancing if supported financially.

“We have various programs that support the agricultural and mining sectors and if adopted on a national scale the economy could grow,” said Dr Mafoti.

Turning to the role of the research centre in enhancing industrialisation in the country, Dr Mafoti says the organisation has a robust  industrial support services which support the speedy repair and maintenance of old equipment.

“The programme is to promote the use of science and technology in production which has helped in industrial productivity.

Our organisation is central for economic development as globally, science and technology are used in propelling economic development.

The Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre is the national technology centre established by government in 1993. It provides the country and the region with technological solutions for sustainable development.
