More than 25 people have been burnt to death and 33 others were injured, four of them critically following a head-on collision involving a South African bound bus and a Haulage truck at the 126 kilometer peg along Chinhoyi â€“Chirundu road.
Both the South African bus that was traveling from Lusaka and the haulage truck caught fire minutes after the accident.
National police spokesperson Inspector Tigere Chigome confirmed the accident saying they are still investigating to establish the exact number of people who were on the bus.
He said out of the 33 who were taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for medical treatment, one died on admission.
The accident occurred as the bus tried to overtake a T-35 truck which it side- swiped before colliding with the haulage truck.Â
Â Only one body believed to be of the truck driver was found on the scene of the accident under tones of burning fertilizer rubble bags.
A survivor in the accident said the bus was carrying around 60 people, the majority of who were believed to be Zambian Nationals
Superintendent Ezra Ngoma who attended the scene said the police are yet to establish how many people have died in the accident with some bodies believed to be under some burning fertilizer rabbles bags.
The Chinhoyi fire brigade could not attend to the scene.
Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital Medical Superintended Dr Collett Mawire saying the 4 who are in critical condition are to be transferred to Harare.
