Two Australian nationals have died in a road accident which occurred 5 kilometres along the Victoria Falls-Kazungula Road.

What was supposed to be a memorable holiday in the resort town of Victoria Falls turned to be a tragic experience as a family travelling on a Zimbabwean registered vehicle was involved in an accident which resulted in the death of two family members.

Australian national Penno Elizabeth Claire (32) and her daughter Anaishe Elizabeth Mpofu died on the spot after sustaining head injuries following the accident.

The husband, 34 year old Emmanuel Mpofu, who survived, is also a Zimbabwean national based in Australia and is currently admitted at Victoria Falls hospital.

The driver lost control of the vehicle as he was approaching a curve along the Victoria Falls-Kazungula road resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and overturning.

The other child 14 year old Romero Nicholas who sustained minor injuries was treated and discharged and is now in a stable condition.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Officer Commanding Victoria Falls District Chief Superintendent Jairos Chiwona said initial investigations suggest that the driver was speeding and urged all motorists to observe speed limits when travelling during the current festive season.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased are at Victoria Falls hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.
