all africa games maputo.jpgTeam Zimbabwe arrived back in the country this Monday afternoon from their All Africa Games campaign in Mozambique.

The team, which arrived aboard a chartered flight, finished 11th on the medals standings after amassing 15 medals in total, comprising 6 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Swimming provided the bulk of the medals, 11 in total.

Olympic champion, Kirsty Coventry secured four gold medals, while international chess master, Robert Gwaze and rising tennis star, Takanyi Garan’anga also scooped gold medals for the country.

Team Zimbabwe’s performance was not as good as in the last edition of the All-Africa Games in Algeria where they won 23 medals and were ranked 8th in Africa.

South Africa emerged the best team at the 10th edition of the continental multi-sport showpiece after winning 156 medals, of which 61 were gold, 55 silver and 40 bronze medals.
