Almost two weeks after the Lake Chivero boat disaster which claimed four lives in a single family, members of the Ruzvidzo family say the trauma has left deep scars which will take time to heal.Â
The five children, who hailed from one family, the Ruzvidzos in Budiriro 2 were Tanaka Ruzvidzo (10) and Tatenda Ruzvidzo (6) Nunurai Chitungo (16) Angeline Kasito (16).
It is empty bedrooms, toys and other belongings which Douglas Ruzvidzo says remain as an everyday reminder that what they lost can never find emotional replacement.
To Rufaro Nyahwema, who can hardly find a word as she relives the tragedy, the silence in Number 866 Budiriro 2, in this high density suburb in Harare is a cruel blow. She misses the children, so she confesses.
Chief Chimbamauro under whose jurisdiction Lake Chivero falls in Zvimba area in Mashonaland West paid the family a visit.
The elderly traditional leader says the tragedy is one not easy to comprehend.
The boat claimed a total of 11 lives from different families, but to the Ruzvidzos, it was a plague that wiped off a generation.
This empty bedroom is a living testimony of how just one Christmas went bad for a family.
