The Minister of Health and Child Care Dr David Parirenyatwa has appointed a seven member Health Management Board for Gwanda Provincial Hospital, in a move that is expected to help improve service delivery at the major referral centre.

The new board will be chaired by Ms Sifelipelo Bhebhe and also includes Gwanda Provincial Hospital ‘s medical superintendent Dr Pugie Chimberengwa, renowned lawyer Mr Thomson Mabhikwa, former Gwanda Senator Cde Japhet Dube, Ms Judith Moyo a hotelier, Ms Best Mauba a former employee in the Ministry of Health and Ms Siceliwe Mguni a pharmacist.

Dr Parirenyatwa urged the board to work towards improving the institution and the welfare of the hospital staff through resource mobilisation.

“Our mission is to deliver quality and affordable health care services to the people of Matabeleland South in the shortest possible time,” said board chairperson Ms Bhebhe.

The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Province Cde Abednico Ncube said the competences of the board will be measured by its ability to push for the construction of a new provincial hospital which has been on the cards for years.

Dr Parirenyatwa and his delegation from the Ministry of Health also had the opportunity to tour the hospital and appreciate the challenges faced by the institution which also runs a school of nursing.
