Bindura Municipality is mulling a $4 million upgrade of its water treatment plant to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to residents this year while also coming up with new sources of water.
The upgrade of the municipality’s water system will do away with the current water rationing within the town.
In Bindura, most taps will be dry at least 80 percent of the day and this upgrading will come as a relief to residents.
Bindura Municipality Town Clerk Mr Shangwa Mavesere said part of the $4 million will be used to introduce prepaid metres to ensure every drop is paid for.
Currently the council draws water from Mazowe river but owing to illegal mining activities, the flow of water has been disturbed hence considerations to utilise Masembura dam.
Water leakages have prejudiced the local authority of expected revenue hence the need for close monitoring to ensure that water reaches the intended residents.
Upgrading of water treatment plant will also play an important role in the supply of clean water.
