Idawekwako Old People’s Home in Marondera has the capacity to look after a sizeable number of older people although it is hindered by lack of resources.

Despite having the capacity to accommodate 65 inmates, Idawekwako currently has only 25 elderly people as the institution cannot take more people due to resource constraints.

Board Secretary, Reverend Clement Malulanga told guests at a belated Christmas party hosted for the elderly by Simbisa Brands in Marondera that with enough resources they can accommodate as many people.

The company donated various groceries for use at the old people’s home.

Idawekwako Old People’s Home was established by the Christian Marching Church (CMC) in the 1970s to cater for the elderly disadvantaged population from Marondera and surrounding areas.
