Nine approved independent power projects have taken off in a move that will generate more electricity to Zimbabwe’s national grid.
The projects which are mainly dominated by renewable sources of power were approved by the government after complying with stipulated requirements.
Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) Acting CEO, Mr Eddington Mazambani said inquiries on investments in the country power generation sector are on an increase.
“Project proposals are on a rise since January,” he said.
The rise in power consumption due to increased economic activity has resulted in the government coming up with a renewable energy policy.
The policy is aimed at increasing projects by independent companies at affordable costs while also facilitating a green economy by protecting the environment.
