An 83-member women’s delegation has left the country for the United States of America for the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which will coincide with the Human Trafficking Forum.

The Zimbabwean delegation comprising women in business, women in minerals and women parliamentarians will join various representatives of member states, UN entities, and non-governmental organisations for the CSW session taking place at the UN headquarters in New York from 13 to 24 March 2017.

ZBC News caught up with Young Women in Business leader, Apphia Musavengana and Women in Minerals Vice Chairperson, Blessing Hungwe at the Harare International Airport, who say they will use the CSW session to present and share business opportunities in Zimbabwe with their counterparts.

Head of delegation and Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Cde Nyasha Chikwinya, will however miss the opening session after she was denied a visa.

The CSW session will be held under the theme: ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Changing World of Work: Challenges and Achievements in the Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for Women and Girls.’
