500 desks and chairs donated to President Robert Mugabe by China Jiangsu the contractor in the $150 million Victoria Falls International Airport upgrade project have been handed over to five schools in Hwange district at a colourful ceremony held at the new-look airport.
Guest of honour during the handover ceremony Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Thokozile Mathuthu expressed gratitude to both President Mugabe and the contractor for the gesture.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Engineer Michael Madanha said it is gratifying that the airport dubbed ‘The Game Changer’ has made significant contributions to the growth of tourism since its commissioning.
Chief Shana of Jambezi who spoke on behalf of the other four chiefs expressed gratitude to China Jiangsu and is upbeat of more partnerships in future between the firm and the Hwange community.
Each of the five schools received 100 desks and chairs.
Among those who graced the handover ceremony include Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) officials, government officials and several traditional leaders from Hwange rural district.
