Five people died and six others were seriously injured when a Toyota Ipsum was involved in a road accident in Lalapanzi, 40 kilometres away from Gweru, Friday evening.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Patrick Chademana, confirmed the accident saying the vehicle which was travelling from Mvuma to Gweru burst its rear tyre before it overturned several times killing the five on the spot.
Inspector Chademana said the injured were taken to Gweru General Hospital.
Meanwhile, Acting Officer Commanding Midlands Province, Assistant Commissioner Lenny Ncube, has warned owners of unregistered cars to act responsibly and respect human lives.
Assistant Commissioner Ncube said preliminary investigation of the accident revealed that the vehicle was overloaded.
He urged public transporters to respect road traffic laws.
The names of the deceased are being withheld until their next of kin are advised.
