Five MDC-T officials have been arrested in Hatfield for allegedly distributing pre-commissioned affidavits to people seeking proof of residence to enable them to register under the biometric voter registration (BVR) system.
National Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest saying they are investigating the matter.
The five MDC-T members including a councillor were arrested in Hatfield in the morning after being caught in possession of over 2000 copies of pre-commissioned affidavits they were issuing to enable people seeking proof of residence to register as voters in Hatfield.
The pre-commissioned affidavits were stamped by the MDC-T legislator for the area, Dr Tapiwa Mashakada.
The five arrested MD-T members were still detained at Hatfield Police Station where they are being interrogated when ZBC News arrived.
ZBC News caught up with a political leader in the area Cde Danny Musukuma who was part of the people who alerted police of the irregularities which he attributed to MDC-T legislator Dr Mashakada and appealed to the relevant authority to investigate.
Another eyewitness in the area claimed that the MDC-T officials were so violent and attacked the police who confisticated over 2 000 pre-commissioned affidavits during the arrest.
