The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) technical director Wilson Mutekede today emphasized the importance of adopting 5-aside football as a way of enhancing the technical ability of budding players.

Futsal was today officially launched as a sport by the National Association of Secondary School Heads (NASH) Harare Province at Oriel Boys High School at an event which saw PSI being unveiled as the main partner.

Reacting to the development the ZIFA technical director said 5-aside football is critical in addressing the technical challenges facing Zimbabwean footballers.

NASH provincial head-in-charge for football Ropafadzo Matemavi outlined the significance of the launch of Futsal in attempts to align with the new curriculum which emphasizes the need for promoting sporting activity all year round.

Established nations have over the years laid a firm foundation of their football by focusing on small sided games at junior level.

Festivals involving top teams such as Barcelona are often indoor with emphasis on restricting the size of the pitch.

This is viewed as fundamental in increasing the amount of time in which players have contact with the ball.
