Organisers of this year’s Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo have expressed confidence that the expo will be bigger and better as evidenced by the interest shown by the market and remarkable increase in the number of foreign exhibitors and buyers who have signed up compared to last year.
Over 470 exhibitors are expected to showcase at the Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo this year compared to 400 who attended last year, while 320 buyers are expected to be at the fair compared to 234 for last year.
This year’s Sanganai Tourism Expo has seen exhibitors from countries like Sudan, Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia among other countries exhibiting for the first time, a move that organisers say is a clear indication that Zimbabwean tourism is on the path to recovery.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Executive Director Destination Marketing, Ms Tesa Chikaponya said the fair will help market Zimbabwe globally as a destination of choice.Â
On the effectiveness of past tourism expos, Ms Chikaponya said the industry has now started to realise the fruits of the expos as seen by new investors coming to invest in the country some of whom are partnering locals.
“Some investors are coming in to partner locals in refurbishing their infrastructure while some buyers who have been to Zimbabwe are doing a lot to market the country and putting it back on the map as seen by an increase in the number of tourist arrivals in the country,†Ms Chikaponya said.
The tourism expo is a yearly event which is expected to bring together stakeholders in the tourism industry including buyers and investors for the purpose of networking.
This year the fair will run under the theme, “Green tourism, anchoring economic growth” in line with United Nations theme for the World Tourism Day of “Tourism and Biodiversity.â€
The theme seeks to conscientise policy makers, stakeholders in the industry as well as the public to ensure that natural resources are conserved and protected considering that Zimbabwe’s tourism is based on wildlife, vast natural resources and natural wonders.
