Govt needs US$2m for national youth games
The government needs to mobilise US$2 million to successfully host the rebranded national youth games to be hosted by Matabeleland North Province in August.
Preparations for the rebranded national youth games continue to take centre stage with a general assembly already held in Bulawayo to discuss the regulations that will govern the running of each of the 21 sport codes that will be featured this year.
Induction workshops have already been held in Hwange as part of the preparations for the games.
The games and technical manuals are now in place and the next step is to begin resource mobilisation to successfully host the 15 000 officials and athletes that will be participating, said Sports and Recreation Minister, Makhosini Hlongwane.
“What is now left is to make sure that we engage with the province and make sure that the local organising committee is king hard from a point of view of resource mobilisation to assist the games process with resources,” said Minister Hlongwane.
The national youth games will be hosted in Victoria Falls, Lupane and Hwange with the latter also operating as the command centre.
A slot for above 23 age group has been added to accommodate participants from the uniformed forces, whose main role will be to provide support to the youths through exhibitions.
The games will be held from the 17th to the 27th of August.
