Three cholera cases have been reported in Chiredzi, with one having already tested positive through a rapid diagnostic test.
Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Dr Amadeous Shamhu and Chiredzi Hospital District Medical Superintendant, Dr Brian Dhlandhlara confirmed the suspected cases.
“Of the three suspected cholera cases reported, one has tested positive through a rapid diagnostic test and we are now waiting for laboratory tests,” said Dr Shamhu.
“Investigations are being carried out to trace the source of the disease and measures are being put in place to contain it,” Dr Dhlandhara said.
The three cases are said to be from Monyoronga village 11b just after Triangle.
Dr Dhlandhlara said the patients were in a stable condition as they continue to monitor their condition and their team had been deployed on the ground to assist.
Chiredzi district remains one of the hotspots for cholera especially in rural communities due to inadequate access to safe, clean water and sanitation facilities.
