ZNA’s Charities Ball dinner held

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) held a fundraising dinner for its charities which has seen the people’s army raising proceeds to help vulnerable communities. The Commander ZNA’s Charities Ball 2018 which marked the first ball for Commander ZNA Lieutenant General Edzai Absalom Chakanyuka Chimonyo as patron of the army charities was held with the various corporates gracing the event. Lieutenant General Chimonyo thanked his predecessor General Philip Valerio Sibanda for conceptualising a great vision which has seen the army fundraising and providing sustenance to the underprivileged communities. Speaking on the sidelines of the fundraising dinner, director army charities Lieutenant Colonel Fabion Chitungo said the army runs various charities which have seen the proceeds putting smiles to the less privileged communities with the army having built 17 schools to date. “We have been running these charities and in the process assisting communities. For instance we are currently involved in the construction of a secondary school in Mbalabala to help shorten the over 30km distance travelled by learners in that area,” said Lieutenant Colonel Chitungo. Shot in the arm for elderly in Chitungwiza

The elderly in Chitungwiza have applauded the City Council for extending a hand to the disadvantaged. This came out during distribution of groceries under the Mayor’s Cheer Fund. Scores of disadvantaged people gathered at Chitungwiza Town Council to receive goodies under the Mayor’s Cheer Fund. Among them, were elderly people from the community who applauded the city fathers for extending a hand to them. While most recipients were in cloud nine after getting their share, this was not to be for 86 year old Mbuya Grace Donzva of Unit N, Seke who had the opportunity to share some of her challenges and life experiences. Mat South calls for Zanu PF primaries’ re-run

Zanu PF Matabeleland South Province has expressed dissatisfaction over the recently held primary elections with some party leaders pushing for fresh intra-party polls in all the constituencies. However, Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Simon Khaya Moyo responded by saying that whilst the concerns of the province are genuine and valid there is need to appreciate that the Politburo assessed all the complaints and approved re-runs in 12 constituencies. The Zanu PF Matabeleland South Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) met at the party headquarters in Gwanda today, for the announcement of the names of candidates for the harmonised elections as well as to reflect on the recently held primary elections and discuss the roadmap for the coming polls.   The provincial chairman Cde Rabelani Choene, however, told the meeting that he had not yet received the names of the candidates who won the primary polls from the party head office. On the primary election itself, disgruntled members expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the polls were conducted with the majority of members in the meeting calling for a re-run in all the constituencies. At least 2000 women are set to be empowered in various sectors of the economy under an initiative being spearheaded by Single Mothers Foundation. Statistics point to a worrying trend facing women in Zimbabwe particularly single mothers who have to bear the brunt of economic hardships with at least 80 percent of them relegated to poverty.
