Police in Makonde district recently launched a patrol unit aimed at ensuring a peaceful environment ahead of the 2018 harmonised elections.
The patrol unit comprises motor cycles and foot patrol units.
Launching the combined patrol units, Officer Commanding Police Makonde District Chief Superintendent Lovemore Mutadza said the conduct of police officers is crucial to ensure that the credibility and security of the polls is maintained in line with pronouncement made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the need to observe and promote law and order before, during and after the elections.
He urged members of the police force to exercise their constitutional mandate with due respect to human rights.
He urged all political parties to act within the confines of the law and to observe political tolerance throughout the election period.
Zimbabweans go to polls on the 30th of this month.
