Poverty reduction efforts through empowerment projects are reaping huge benefits for women from Chirumhanzu – Zibagwe constituency, whose income generating projects have transformed rural communities.

Successful development can safely be defined as, when women who constitute over 50 percent of the world’s population can safely decide their own destiny.

Through an empowerment drive, the development agenda is certainly taking shape in rural Chirumhanzu where women now own property that has transformed their lives for the good.

It all began with a community savings banks, which became the lender of loans for many rural women in Chirumhanzu, Zhombe, Silobela and Kwekwe.

Today, the women now own heifers, cars, modern houses and have claimed their space in the community.

A brainchild of the First Lady, Cde Auxillia Mnangagwa, the project has expanded to include a funeral truck for use during bereavements in the constituency.

The Fushai Community Savings Bank was started by a group of 20 women in Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe with initial capital of $300 donated by First Lady.

Such bottom up approaches to development have been described as what the nation needs in achieving community growth before it is translated to the national level.
