The political and traditional leadership in Beitbridge has appealed to the government to improve education infrastructure in the district as many learners are failing to pursue science related subjects, owing to the acute shortage of laboratories in schools.

In an interview with the ZBC News, politician and educationist, Ambassador Aaron Maboyi hailed the strides made so far in the education sector, which have placed Zimbabwe as one of the continent’s most literate nations.

Chief Staudze of Beitbridge West bemoaned the general shortage of secondary schools in his area, saying the obtaining situation has in some cases forced learners to drop out of school despite being top performers.

While some schools in Gwanda have been fortunate to benefit state of the art science laboratories under the Gwanda Community Share Ownership Scheme, there are that the projects will become white elephants, owing to the shortage of science and mathematics teachers.
