Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi

The re alignment of laws, electoral reforms and the establishment of an investment friendly legal framework remain major challenges that need urgent redress by the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

Legal experts said economic recovery can only be achieved if the legal frame work is investor friendly.

Advocate Thabani Mpofu said the current legal framework needs to be revisited as some of the current laws can frighten potential investors.

Another legal expert, Advocate Sylvester Hashiti is of the view that delays in the re-alignment of laws are an impediment to the administration of justice.

He said the Constitutional Court will end up spending much of its time attending to issues that are already solved by the constitution instead of dealing with other matters of national importance.

“Corruption and disintegration of those mandated to deal with the problem is another burning issue,” added Advocate Hashiti.

The experts also argued that the absence of wider consultations by authorities is another cause of concern that needs attention.

The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs has been facilitating the re-alignment of laws since the coming into force of the new constitution in 2013.

However, lack of enthusiasm by certain ministries in adhering to requirements has been delaying the whole process.
