Mutare outshined Chipinge in an exciting Tokado kickboxing tournament held this weekend at Gaza Hall in Chipinge as the province prepares for national competitions to be held in Chitungwiza next week.

Mutare beat Chipinge 49-33 as the team from the Manicaland provincial capital showed better skill and resilience.

Tournament organiser, Siju Gift Murinda said the level of competition was pleasing as the Manicaland Tokado Kickboxing Association prepares for the national tournament to be held next Saturday in Chitungwiza.

Chipinge master, Cosmos Mutizamhepo said the sport lacks sponsorship in the district but indicated that with more support, Chipinge can be a kickboxing powerhouse.

Chipinge legislator, Cde Raymond Machingura said he will engage other organisations and mobilise support for the sport.

One of the tournament’s major highlights was that of a father and son demo where former Zimbabwean kick boxing champion, Knowledge Nyamhoka and an emerging champion, Knowledge Junior showcased their skills, much to the delight of the spectators.

Considering significant success by Zimbabwe at regional kickboxing competitions, the country has great potential if the sport gets more support.
