The Zimbabwe Karate Union yesterday hosted the Africabet Champion of Champions karate tournament which attracted top karatekas from across the country.

The City Sports Centre in Harare was abuzz with karate activity as top karatekas took part in an event which featured both full contact and semi-contact.

The kumite attracted much attention with Tristan Chakuvinga dominating the boys under-21 category, while in the men under-67 kgs section, Innocent Ntini claimed pole position. Christopher Masautso scooped gold in the men under-75 kg’s with Adolf Chapwanyira claiming first place in the men over-75 kgs.

In the girls kumite, Nicole Musarira claimed pole position in the under-21 girls, with Kudzaishe Takaedza scooping gold in the open ladies category.

In the kata, Gerald Muusha won the senior men event, while a solid performance by Nicole Musarira ensured that she claimed first place in the ladies open category.

Zimbabwe Karate Union President, Paul Danisa was pleased with the competition, outlining the strides being made by the sport.

The champion of champions karate tournament is an annual event which is used to select karatekas that represent the country at regional and continental competitions.
