Chitungwiza residents are making a living out of recycling plastics.

With a kilogramme of plastics going for $3 per kilogramme, a hard worker would walk away with $25 per day.

“Plastic is one such material that is widely used as it is non bio-degradable and decomposing it is very difficult,” Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Spokesperson, Mr Steady Kangata said.

However, a health hazard is looming as the residents do not have protective clothing and their plight is worsened by the fact that the dumpsites attract flies with a possibility of diseases being high.
