Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has hailed sports tourism for its power to put the spotlight on Zimbabwe as a safe tourism destination.

He was speaking at the Warriors Legends versus Barcelona Legends match at the giant National Sports Stadium in the capital. 

Sports tourism proved its phenomenal crowd pulling power by bringing together Barcelona Legends domiciled in different parts of the world to play against the Warriors Legends who were also scattered across the globe. 

The biggest beneficiary of the match turned out to be the national branding strategy being spearheaded by government.  

In an interview with the ZBC News, Vice President Mphoko, who was representing President Robert Mugabe, said the match was a success as it showcased Zimbabwe as a safe tourist destination.

The legends match attracted a tens of thousands of soccer fans among them senior government officials comprising Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Makhosini Hlongwane, Minister of Tourism, Hospitality Industry and Environment Cde Edgar Mbwembwe, Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Mike Bimha and Deputy Minister of Tourism Cde Anastancia Ndlovu, among others.
