Scores of people are counting themselves lucky after surviving what could have become a national disaster at the famous Boterekwa in Shurugwi this afternoon.

Travelling towards Zvishavane down the mighty and scenic mountainous terrain stretching 10km, a local bus lost brakes and just before it collided head-on with a stationary ‘abnormal load’ haulage truck, an invisible hand just intervened to save the situation.

With little time to react, the driver avoided the deep gorge and guided the bus to the other side, risking a head on collision with the mountain cliff.

Lady luck was indeed on the passengers’ side, as the bus stopped just at the edge of the road.
