Sport media practitioners and administrators at various levels are set to converge in Harare for an international certificate course in sports administration to be graced by an international facilitator from 25-27 October.
The course that is being hosted by the Sports Leaders Institute of Zimbabwe (SLIZ) in conjunction with the West Virginia University is aimed at empowering local sports stakeholders in the modern scientific trends in the running of sport.
Dr Floyd Dennis Jones, an associate professor at the West Virginia University is set to deliver the key note address that will touch on issues like functions of sport management, inclusion, ethics and morality and how to design an entreprenurial model for growing a sport business among other topics.
SLIZ director, Russel Mhiribidi stressed the importance of science as a new thrust if better results are to be achieved.
Most sports codes have been found wanting when it comes to sport science with some athletes going through bans or injuries that could have been avoided owing to lack of knowledge on the use of some substances and practises.
The course will run under the theme, “The Globalisation of Sport Management as an Academic Discipline, a Science Based Approach to Managing Sport in Zimbabwe”.
