War veterans, nationalists, detainees and war collaborators had a rare opportunity to mix and mingle at a get together function organised by Chipinge East legislator Cde Win Mlambo at his Wintrade Farm in Chipinge as they shared bitter memories of the liberation struggle.

Some of the nationalists were detained together with President Robert Mugabe during the liberation struggle.

Convener of the get together meeting Dr Mlambo who is also Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services said it is important for nationalists and senior veterans of the struggle to meet regularly and preserve and document the liberation history of the country.

Voluntary researcher and political coordinator Raymond Mazorodze said the historic and rare meeting of nationalists that include Cdes Joseph Kapeta, Solomon Everisto Marembo, Edson Sithole, Paul Changwa Ziki and Solomon Gwitira among others who stayed with the President in Sikombela is an important step towards updating the history of the liberation struggle.

The 16 war veterans, nationalists, detainees and war collaborators who met in Chipinge said the meeting helped them to reflect on their past.
