The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has enhanced its preparedness for the 2018 harmonised elections by cascading the biometric voter registration (BVR) training programme to provincial and district election supervisors.
ZEC is leaving no stone unturned towards ensuring that stakeholders are abreast with the demands of the forth coming general elections for enhanced credibility.
In an interview on the sidelines of a two day BVR training workshop in Mutare, ZEC Manicaland Provincial Elections Officer, Mr Moffat Masabeya said the aim is to equip officers with relevant skills that will help them to establish a credible voters roll.
He commended the participants for exhibiting high levels of enthusiasm in mastering the use of the new voter registration system, adding that the programme will soon be rolled out at a larger scale to all the districts in the province.
ZEC has already acquired the BVR equipment in preparations of next year’s harmonised elections.
The new BVR kits can capture voter’s identity particulars, proof of residence, including fingerprints and facial features.
