Drug abuse rampant: WHO

Statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations office on drugs and crime indicate that at least seven million deaths are recorded every year due to the use of tobacco and 200 million people are involved in drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The news came out during belated commemorations of World No Tobacco Day and the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the capital yesterday. State owned financial institution, the People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) is bemoaning a low uptake of its US$5 million mortgage facility by the low income households as beneficiaries fail to submit credible bankable proposals. The Zimbabwe Land Commission says there is need to adhere to the maximum farm size policy so that all the land is fully utilised.
