2017-2018 rainfall forecast for Zimbabwe predicts that most parts of the country will receive normal to below normal rainfall for the period October to December while the situation is expected to improve in the January to March rainfall period.

According to the rainfall forecast released by the Meteorological Services Department today, the seasonal rainfall outlook paints a generally positive picture, however for regions 2 and 3 there is likely to be reduced rains for the period October to December.

The Met Department director general, Dr Amos Makarau said they will continue to monitor all the available seasonal climate indicators and the seasonal rainfall prediction will be updated on a monthly basis beginning this October.

Normal to above normal rains are expected to cover the whole country for the period January to March 2018, with the Met Department issuing a caution on the possibility of flooding.

The weather authority recommends that farmers with irrigation facilities should utilise the facilities while also emphasizing the application of fertilisers should be guided by the 10 day weather forecasts as well as advise from agricultural authorities.
