The rebranded National Youth Games have ended in Hwange with the government expressing satisfaction with the inclusion of communities in the competition structure.

The games included five virtual sport and recreation provinces namely: the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, agricultural colleges as well as the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union.

 The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Makhosini Hongwane said his ministry is working around the clock to ensure that they eliminate any impediments that are suppressing the development of sports and recreation in the country.

He said the sporting fraternity is currently battling with the inadequate funding and called on stakeholders to lend their support in the future edition of the games.

The ceremony, which featured colourful displays by local artists, was also attended by the Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs, Ambassador Cain Mathema.

The games ended with an under 23 soccer match, which Harare Province won 1-nil against Matabeleland North Province.
