Zimbabwe Football Association president, Phillip Chiyangwa said player valuation is fundamental in the transformation of football into an industry.
The valuation of players is a concept that has emerged as fundamental across the globe and Chiyangwa said Zimbabwe need to follow the same path.
A local sports shop owner said the failure by local teams to place a value on their players has resulted in great loss of potential revenue that can be accrued through shirt sales.
Some local teams have made attempts to sell replica jerseys but in most scenarios the jerseys do not have specific player names on them, making it impossible for fans to make purchases of specific replica shirts.
In Europe most clubs have specific values attached to their players with age, performance and shirt sales among other factors considered in placing a value to a player.
It has however been difficult in Zimbabwe where clubs are under financial strain and are often unable to satisfy the needs of players.
