The wife of the late Vice President and national hero, Dr Simon Muzenda, Mbuya Maud Muzenda has died.

Cde Muzenda died at the Avenues Clinic in Harare this afternoon at the age of 88.

Family spokesperson, Cde Tongai Muzenda confirmed the death of Mbuya Muzenda, adding that mourners are gathered at house number 43 Lewisam Avenue, Chisipiti in Harare.

Daughter to the late Mbuya Muzenda, Senator Tsitsi, described her late mother as a strong woman, saying she will forever draw inspiration from her.

Mrs Tendai Ngcobo said her late mother was hypertensive and diabetic and was admitted at the Avenues Clinic for three weeks.

She said the late Mbuya Muzenda underwent surgery in Cape Town, South Africa in May this year after suffering from back pain and since then, she never recovered.

Speaking to the ZBC News at the Muzenda Chisipite home in Harare this evening, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said Mbuya Muzenda remained a Zanu PF stalwart even after the death of her husband, Dr Muzenda and always attended national events despite her ill- health.

Mbuya Muzenda is survived by six chidren, 23 grand children and 15 great grand children.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
