The country’s tertiary institutions are home to the finest minds on developments globally and this is where local authorities have been called on to tap into in order to transform service delivery.
The University of Zimbabwe this Wednesday (today) was abuzz as the country’s 31 local authorities came face to face with experts from the country’s universities. The local authorities’ conference seeks to hasten the transformation of the country’s towns and cities to meet the global yardsticks and become smart metropolitan areas.
University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor, Professor Levi Nyagura said in an age where the country has brilliant academics as well as professionals churned out of the country’s educational institutions, solving problems faced by local authorities should not be a major hurdle.
The secretary general of the Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe, Mr Levison Mutekede said the conference provides a platform for them to inter-phase as well as tap into the knowledge the Tertiary institutions have at their disposal.
The local authorities’ conference which commenced today will run up to the 18th and is under the theme, “Enhancing Service Delivery Through Technological Interventions: Tertiary Institutions and Local Authorities Partnerships”.
