Preparations for the Manicaland Mbira and Marimba Festival which is one of the province’s schools prime traditional music and dance events has gathered momentum.

The festival is an annual event that takes places in Nyanga with the aim of nurturing artistic skills and promotes traditional music appreciation.

Gaza Primary School in Chipinge will participate in the competition for the first time and they are optimistic that they will make a huge impression.

The school deputy head, Mrs Prisca Chingoriyo said the performances are part of the new curriculum’s drive to foster life skills among children while the school’s music teacher, Mrs Nancy Mlambo said it is important to broaden children’s prospects of success in life through the arts.

The new educational curriculum is expected to transform the country’s educational system if effectively implemented.
