The Zimbabwe under 16 basketball team today left for the Afrobasket championships to be hosted by Mozambique from the 5th of August.

The team was visibly an excited lot ahead of their departure for the prestigious tourney.

A send-off ceremony was held for the girls in the capital with team captain Thandeka Sibanda thrilled at having been tasked to lead her charges for the country in Mozambique.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe president, Addison Chiware said the participation of junior teams at continental events is vital as it gives them the much needed exposure.

Banc ABC who provided assistance which enabled the team to travel acknowledged the significance of rendering support to the girl child.

The under 16 Afrobasket championships will be made up of 5 teams namely Zimbabwe, hosts Mozambique, Mali, Angola and Egypt and will run from the 5th to the 12th of this month.
