St Paul’s Musami Mission in Mrewa says it wants to emulate the history that was made by its team in 1966 which won the national soccer league title.

The school’s soccer team coach Ian Muderede told the ZBC News after receiving a donation of a football uniforms, soccer boots and footballs from former student and banker Francis Dzanya that the donation will go a long way in motivating the team.

The donation also included a netball kit.

Dzanya told the students that St Paul’s Musami has a rich history in sport and Zimbabwe has a lot of talent which needs to be supported with good structures so that talent can be identified and nurtured at grassroots level.

St Paul’s Musami football team are currently the Mrewa zonal champions and were semi finalists at the provincial championships.

They however lost to Mandedza.

The St Paul’s Musami team class of 1966 which was coached by Father Anthony Edward Davies is the only team from outside Harare to have won the national league championship.

They went on to win the Bat Super Cup in 1967 with the likes of George Shaya, Felix Mbizo and Jawet Nechironga.
