Business has highlighted the need to focus on pro-local production policies in order to broaden the revenue base and to sustain the commendable performance by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) during first quarter of 2017.
The local business community has highlighted the need to maintain the positive start to the year by ZIMRA which recorded a 14 percent increase in net revenue collections during the first quarter of 2017 to US$826.6 million compared to the US$724.89 million collected during the same period in 2016.
Buy Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere says it is critical that the country concentrates on building the local industry and nurturing small businesses as part of efforts to grow the revenue base.
Tax consultant Mr Munhuwashe Nganga says the commendable performance by the local revenue authority during the first quarter and the strong performance by the agricultural sector have brought positive prospects for the domestic economy.
The revenue authority has attributed the increase in net collections during the first quarter of 2017 to greater enforcement, on-going automation of its systems and the fight against corruption.
